Video tutorial showing you the basics of creating a map. This tutorial will walk you through building, compiling and playing your first map for HL2DM. The video is over 20 minutes long, compressed using xvid (virtualdub.org) and comes with the sample map file that was created during the tutorial.
When i first started downloading these tutorials and trying to open them i got no video wats so ever. Untill a friend told me to download a Divx Codec all u ahve to do is go to goole and type in Divx Codec and get watever kind u need. Like it wilsay for mac and for windows wat ever ur computer has get that and get the latest version
i am really interested and want to get into this. At least for one map. The foyleman recommended I check the tutorials out. I found the videos and read everything. Hearing how great they were I dl’ed them. I couldn’t open them so I tried again.

when i open in windows media player, i get the adio But no video. I have tried opening in the "choose program" or "open with" with every single program i have for video because virtualdub didn't show up as an option in there.
When i open "Vitualdub/File/open video file.../FirstRoom-hl2" i get: "couldn't locate
decompressor for format 'XVID" (unknown) i have installed virtualdub vd1.7.0-amd64 and all the other dls totaling 219 MB (230,572,032 bytes) of virtualdub files & program.
i have tried proxyon/ proxyoff
i have tried all i know too. Is there any other way i could open this or get this (these) video files another way? It said not to use a download manager but i have no idea how to turn it off.
FLAME ME if you must- i can take it, just be constructive with your criticisms.

like i said above, do you want to learn Hammer/HL2 mapping, or how install / config hammer. watch first this video tut.
about the slow download, ok, it's now download rate from around 500 kb's per sec. but i have it around 70 to 80 and i have cable connection. so i asume that your own internet connection also has to do something with the slow dowload.
we seen the "first room" for all game editors...
but that's just repeating itself. how about you do a new one foyleman... like, "first car" or "first girlfriend" or even better, "first time in bed with the opposite sex" video ? :D

okay, after seeing your mapping skills there I can only wait for the "first car" to come out soon... because the last 2 ones just AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN BABY !!! >xD jk ;P
i have pointed this starting tut out to a whole lot of mappers that wanted to start with HL2/CS, but didn't know how to do so, and everybody without exception was helped so much with this tut that they after it immediately could start working on a map. for me it was the same, but i already new this, when i start with a new game/editor i always first look if Foyleman has writing/filmed a starting(first room) tut on it. if so, than that's the first thing that i start watching/reading.
Ridiculously slow downloading speed... I know that has absolutely nothing to do with the creator of the tutorial, but I have an hour and a half to complain before this thing is done downloading
I'm on a t3 connection at my University and this thing is literally one of the slowest downloads I can imagine, less than 20 kb a second on a t3.... hope this tutorial is badass
