Thanks a ton for this video! It helped greatly in getting used to this new-er (to me) mapping tool. I'm used to Source and the ease to making those maps.
When I first sat down with this tool I was a little disoriented with the windows and options. I'd never used any of the previous COD mapping tools, so I wasn't very familiar.
Now that I know the basics to a map I think I can find myself around and start treading into more intermediate areas of COD4 mapping.
But, don't stop making more videos! These videos are 10x more helpful than a written tut, due to hints left out or not enough screen shots to show in between steps, or the wording is obscure so its hard to understand.
This will greatly help the community so others can teach or answer those questions that get asked so often by new comers.
GREAT TUTORIAL! one problem. How come your first shape you did on the 2D grid is just outlined in red. Mine is completely red. INSIDE AND OUT. how do i fix that?
First of all, THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL! It was really great. But one thing... I have the same problem than the previous poster, after I have done my mp map, it first loads my map, and then it instantly loads backlot. What's the problem?
Oh and btw, I had the same problem when I set up a LAN with my friends. We tried some custom maps but on some, it just loaded the map and then went to backlot, just like my first map...
So, any ideas?
EDIT: I even ticked "Use Custom Command Line Options" from the Compile Tools, and typed "+set fs_game Mods/ModWarfare" so it would load modwarfare instead of vanilla cod4... but still didn't work, it loaded my map first and then immediately went to load free-for-all backlot... :/
EDIT2: I have the 1.5 patch and the modtools 1.1 patch installed. O/S is WinXP with latest patches.

Excellent video, I tried a written tutorial and it was very vague, it relied on previous knowledge to get the point across. I followed your tutorial through to the end, and it was extremely helpful. I would, however, like to get some feedback on a problem that occurs when I try to load it: it loads properly, then after the initial screen telling me the next map to play, it loads backlot instead. tried it again, same thing. Tried updating the zone file as well, and no dice...any suggestions?

The fact that it is aimed at total noobs is great. I had tried to follow a few other tuts just to get started with mapping in COD4, but had no luck. Followed your excellent tutorial and got it to work on first attempt!
I like the fact that you even point out that there are some errors while compiling, but that one can ignore those for the moment!

Incredibly helpful with the basics. As I'm a Mac user, I'm actually a WMV-hater (since M$ abandoned WMV support for Mac a while back). I was surprised to see how well H.264 worked for this .mov.
I usually don't leave many comment but this is the best video i've seen that was quick, to the point, and also covered you if you somehow made some mistakes. Two thumbs up! :D
I like the video but i noticed that after you compiled the bsp your command prompt didn't close immediatly. If you could let me know how to set up cmd properly or which setting in compile tools to change the default behavior of closing immediatly, that would be awesome.
I had a go from scratch myself on the Mod Tools yesterday, without prior knowledge and was completely lost. I'm an old-school Graphic designer and have'nt used 3-D packages before.
But I found this step by step tut fantastic and really easy to follow. Hats off to the narrator for not simply "presuming" everyone has the basics in mapping. I don't but... do now ;-) Brilliant run down and very straight forward. Thank you very much!

cod4_101 was GREAT. WEll put together to get a new guy or a "Hammer" old timer refreshed on how to get strted from the instal to running a small 1 wall map. He does a great job showing the step by step porcedures needed and what to do /look at when you get some errors.

Excellent video tutorial and well explained! Video and sound quality is great (some people shouldn't have their voices for tutorials, but yours is good. Reminds me of the linda.com tutorials lol)
One point to add though, although you mention to turn off autosave, you didn't show how to do it for newcomers. (for those who don't know, it's under Edit/Preferences in the radio box at the bottom)

Great video tutorial. But now when I play the game it's in a window and when I go to full screen with it it shows the title bar at the top of the screen. Can't figure that one out. Any suggestions?
