could someone please tell me what everything does in the pictures below and how to add them (I know mantle over and ladder but that's it lol) please take note that i'm a mapping virgin..

also what scripts do i need for a fully working finished map .iwd file? i'm just a massive n00b and don't know jack about mapping

also how do i create hills lol

also i added some furniture using the right click script function but when ingame (my map) i just walk through the furniture how do i get around that

All i know of textures are:

Caulk: Use this so build things. The compiler ignores this texture. so dont texture things with this what you will be able to see in game.

Clips: Stops you walking through something. (i think)

Mantle on: lets you get on things

Mantle over: lets you get over things.

dunno what other do. time to find out :)

Water: Use this to create the effect of water, then apply a water texture to the top surface, otherwise your water will be invisible.

Trigger: Used to trigger any event or action within the game, usually relies on scripting.

Portal and Portal No Draw: Use these to portal your map, reducing the number of objects and details the game has to load to the ones you can literally see. Portal Tutorial

Orig: Refers to origin I think, which is usually used with trigger to tell the game where to perform the associated action.

Most of the others you will probably never need unless you wish to make singleplayer maps.

[drink] What the heck is that green thing between "escort" and "Goal Value" ?

I cant decide if it is a rotting fish carcass or some really bad weed. I dont even have that in my version of Radiant!!! [tongue]

Ghost you are doing exactly what you should be doing to learn mapping. You are starting to build things, you read and watch tuts. Try, experiment, try and experiment some more. The best way to learn is to not try a whole map at once. Break it down into little pieces so that all the little pieces will enable you to understand how it all works when put together. It seems daunting at first but it really isnt. I havent been doing this all that long either but working at it and learning solves most things. If you have questions then use the search feature and try several different approaches to your question and you will find answers to most of your questions. We all started once and had the same learning to do. Enjoy the experience.

There is a video tutorial made by Wyatt_Earp in the CoD mapping section on how to make terrain. Although its CoD, the basics are pretty much the same.

For the walk throught furniture, just make a brush textured with the clip texture. The clip texture will stop you from walking through the furniture.

ghost if u pm me ill give u my msn and wud be glad to help m8...

Creating an .iwd is very simple. Your map will need to be in the .iwd format when it is played on an internet server. An .iwd works very much the same as the .pk3 in the original Call of Duty.

1. Make a folder on your desktop. (Mine is named map_temp). It does not matter what you name this.

2. Inside this folder make a folder called maps and a folder called mp. Your arena file will go in this mp folder (An .arena file is not absolutely necessary, but it is the file that will list your map).

3. Inside the maps folder make another folder called mp. Put your .bsp and .gsc files in here.

4. You will need WinZip or pakscape for this step. After you have completed the above steps return to your map_temp folder. Select both the maps and mp folder and right click one of them and select Add to archive. Under archive format select .zip. Make sure compression format is normal. Press O.K.

5. A .zip file will appear in your map_temp folder. Right click it and select rename. Change the file extension to .iwd. If asked "Are you shure you want to change this file extension?" say yes. Your .iwd should now look like mp_yourmapname.iwd

6. Your .iwd is now ready. Put it in your Call of Duty 2/main folder. Test it and make sure it works.

The diagram below shows the structure of a .iwd file.

There is an error in the diagram. The name of the csv-file for the loadscreen must be mp_yourmap.csv and not loadscreen_mp_yourmap.csv.
