Jeez, my computer always runs really hot I guess.... In the summer it constantly runs around 65, and even right now not doing anything its running at 55.  Of course, my cooling system isn't too great (I don't even have an intake fan), but i've only had lock up on my from overheating once, and it was around 80 when it did that.  My proccessor is a AMD Athlon XP1800+, do those run hotter or does my cooling system really just suck that much.

In case your wondering, my cooling system is almost nothing, just a powersupply fan, CPU fan and chipset fan.  I was going to add an intake fan and another exhaust fan, but the ones my friend had just laying around not be used are too big to fit in the spaces on my case, and I haven't felt like buying any.  Should I buy them?

i tend to agree that its being reported higher, i know one of the bios revisions for my asus mobo cause the temp to be reported 10degrees higer,
if u go in to ur bios does it give u the same temp in there??

no there aren't any temp settings in bios,

but my bios has hardly any settings in it.  there is a way to set the jumpers on my mb to erase all the settings in bios if i did this then changed it back around to rember settings that i put in, wud i have more options eg. temperature and memory latency etc.

I'm not sure about the reliability of SiSoft Sandra when it comes to temperature reading. I was having no errors but decided to check the temp of my MB using Sandra, it was 126 degrees celcius! maybe it's just my motherboard not accurately reporting the temp. but I've had no errors what so ever and my MB doesn't even feel hot when touched  ???

are u sure u weren't just reading it in farenheit.

i think that sisoft sandra is definately not reading my cpu temp correct. either that or the heat sensors are buggered

If you are overclocking...that is your choice...you need better fan and heatsink...copper is good. It is used in 1U rackmount servers that have no headroom to accomodate a traditional heatsinks. You can get tall ones that will work the best for the price...silver is just too expensive. Duh

im not overclocking

i have just touched my heatsink (i turned of comp first) after leaving the comp on for 3 hours and it feels about body temperature.  i think my cpu thermometer is totally buggered.

No the reading is definitely 126 degrees celcius. I've come to the conclusion that my MB temperature diode is screwed, or resides in an intense pocket of heat that doesn't affect any other part of my computer :)

Ram,

That is a sweet case for sure.  I spent over $200 for my lian li but do not regret it.   Currently, I am looking for the best "color" fans to mount on the side plexi.... just not sure if I want to go that route until I upgrade my rig to something over 3gig or until after the NV30 comes out.  First I got to be sure that I am cooling this puppy better since it is so overclocked as it is.

Agent,

I've read that bios/sandra temps can be off by 5 degrees most of the time.  If you get a SwiftTech, you gotta take out the mobo to mount it.

Again, the Artic Silver site in my above posted link has excellent instructions for installation of heatsinks.

i think it is out by alot more than that cos the heatsink is cold if i touch it after pc has been running for a while

i cant get a swift tech as i cant take my motherboard out cos the drive bay holders are welded in. (dont ask why)

i think i will just save up about £3000 and make my own rig.

get a decent large case.  a full AT motherboard with agp 8x support (does the nv30 support AGP 8x?).  the best DDRAM.  a decent heatsink.  a new 160GB hardrive and.  a 3.0Ghz P4.  and a cool power supply with a light leds in it.

some case fans so that it dont overheat.

err will i be able to get this with £3000

yes, thats my next upgrade :D if it will fit, it requires an agp slot and the pic slot next to it, unless they change it, but the screenshots i have seen show some weird cooling contraption on it which vents out the back, but needs an empty slot to vent out of :(

probally, depends how much u keep, usualy the monitor is the most expensive part, so if ur keeping it that will reduce cost,

Sh!t mullins, why don't you wait for a while before upgrading to an entirely new machine? Except for your video card everything looks pretty much fine to be able to play any game with a very decent frame rate. With your specs I'd get a new videocard now and wait for another while til the P5 8.6 Ghz with a Gforce6 FX2 is out. :)

...except of course if you wipe your butt with £100 bills!

Dys-

Just ordered This one myself for my new rig.

Oh very nice, very sexy indeed.

AM 007 -
Did you build you PC or was it a complete system?
If so did you perhaps over clock?

SOme PC shops will put weaker CPU's over clock them and then sell them off as a higher spec PC. So was your PC bought from a good shop?
69 degrees is dangerously high. My CPU alarm is set to shut down my system at 75 degrees.
You better get it fixed By Saturday, we'd hate to miss the opertunity of fragging you on saturday...lol
