Hi! I'm having a frustrating time with water. The tut's I have read here area great and have worked except water. Anyone know how come I might be having this one prob? After building a "pool" (hollow out brush, adjusted edges, and removed top) and inserting water brush (shader) then rendering and playing in game, I can swim, hear the sounds and even drown... Only problem is I get strange texture issues and can see everything outside from inside, while underwater in my pool. The water shader is fitted nicely within the pool and for the life of me I can't figure out what the problem is. Please help!

What do you mean by "everything" outside?
Have you tried putting caulk around the outside of the pool?

I had a hard time getting this to work too, and caulk did not solve the problem.

Try this.

Go into your 'tools' texture set, and look for one called _nodraw_water (down near the nodraw textures). Select this texture. Now, make a brush the size of which you want your volume of water to be. Once that's done, select the TOP of the water-brush with a shift+cntrl+leftclick. Now, change that surface's texture to what you want your water to look like. This should give you an entire brush covered with '_nodraw_water' except for the top, which is your 'water' texture.

Does this solve your problem?

Thanks a LOT! That was giving me a headache and that water_no draw trick did it! One last question. To light water up and make it look nice, is it better to keep lights above water, or under water. THANKS AGAIN FOR THAT OTHER ANSWER!

just a heads up on this:

Water and fog both behave the same:

You must only be able to ever see ONE SIDE. That means the other 5 sides to the water/fog brush must be hidden from view, and I believe that you're only 'supposed' to texture one side with the water/fog brush. This is why for ex. the fog in 'The Shop' is where it is.. you only see the top of the brush.
