I dont know if this is coved in a tut yet - but this is the shiznit.

select a light - hit "j"

you can now completely modify the light's properties - add strobes, change it's projection angle, add fog, a milion possibilities -

AS WELL AS - a very important one - Shadowing - we all know D3 is great because of realtime lighting and shadows, BUT every light does NOT need to make them - this little window will let you make some lights NOT have shadows -

Why would you want to do that? Performance.

If you need to light an area just to see, you may want to leave it without a shadow - then in accent areas, where you can see a source for the light (like a lamp or other visable light souce) use a light that makes shadows, to emphasise the scene.

The point is this - You want people to play your map right? - they are more likely to play it if it runs well - this is a great optimising tool - Shadows are great, but think about exactly where you REALLY need them.

(forgive the rambling, just wanted to share this new tidbit I found)

i could neva get fog 2 work right, and it depends what key/vals u put in for the light, like

key/val
light_radius / 128 128 128

that effects it aswell,

also u cant change what the light looks like, e.g, a lamp, wall light or what eva, i cant find those anywhere, so i have 2 use the same modal for all my lights lol,

i think a light/fog tut is needed :P

there is a light/fog tutorial, its one of the ones provided by MNeMiC. It doesn't cover much more than basic fog though.

Light editors great. Can only to get it to work when running the editor in windowed mode though. Hope this and the antialising problems are sorted out in a patch.

When I press J after selecting a light, nothing happens. Do I have some mode on/off or something that isn't supposed to be?

I'll try that, but the light is definitely selected. It won't even work right after I add the light entity and the light is selected.

I always use it in the "cam" window, I have seen it not show up other times - same with the suface inspector, if I'm not in the cam windo it will not show up when i hit "s"

but then again I have things set up a bit differently [tongue]

that looks like a two monitor setup. I can't do that because when I share monitors with the editor, I can't see the grid and other things in the editor.

I bet you are using dual monitor with a single video card because I am using two video cards (agp and pci).

Yeah 2 monitors - works nice - I dont feel as crampe as I used to, and I like a big "cam" window
