I've created a terrain patch, and I've created a cylinder patch. Now the part I have trouble on is merging the two as one. I'm working form the top view in the 2d. I select the top surface of the cylinder (which is oriented vertically) first so that my ground will drag to it instead of vice versa. Second I select the patches of terrain surrounding the cylinder. I want to drag their vertices to the cylnder's so that I can run and jump down into the well and climb a ladder back out. When I hit V, my cylnder doesn't have enough vertices for me to drag to. Essentially I get four sets of usable points that would allow me to make a diamond around it. The 4 corners don't even touch if I try to use W on them.

Anyone able ot help?

Make your cylinder then go patch -> curve to terrain.

this will convert your cylinder into a terrain patch with more verts to play with.

There's a few ways of doing it. I've took some screen shots for you

Ok the first pic is just a simple terrain mesh, 2 vertices horizontal and 5 vertical. All I did was move the left verts so they sit in the empty space between the thickened patch of the wall. Because the terrain is distorted you should probably texture it using "Cap", though m in this case, I think you should be able to get away with using "Natural" as the distortion isn't that extreme

The pics below are if you need meshes to join flush together.
Create a 3*3 patch/curve mesh.
Drag the bottom-right vertex so it sits in line with middle-right and bottom-middle.
Select the 4 "lower right" vertices (can't think of a better way of phrasing theses sorry) and slide them over so they overlap the "upper left" ones.
You should end up with a patch that will slot up against your well which will square it off.

You'll have to cap the texture for these patches though, so, when you're making your terrain surrounding it, you will have to put a blendable layer above them and cap them, then blend them into the "natural" terrain underneath
