i start compile bsp, and when i get to the building light transport for everything..... takes about an hour. Then when it gets to the last minute of compiling it says.. out of memory... then press any button to continue..... and closes.

any idea as to how to get around this? is this a "my computer sux" prblm or does it a radiant thing. thanks

Depends on how much memory your computer has.

Also, close all unneccesary programs when compiling (espeically Radiant!)
Build your maps smart, with portals, structural and detailed brushes..

lol more of a haha ur computer sux!!!! lol nah
its how much system memory you have, in the light options just have fast, verbose and ModelShadow ticked, that will speed up compile and use less memory
if it still says out of memory then untick ModelShadow
and if it STILL says out of memory... buy more memory [biggrin]

thanks ill try some of that..... i got 2gigs or ram and bout 20gigs free of hdspace. one thing my map is lacking is portals.... i have then in all my houses(its an outside map) but i dont have sections of the outside area portaled yet... :(

well ive got the same problem, ill try the settings suggested here, but my estimated time till final compiling is about 5 hours [ohwell].

how many cpu cores, clockspeed and processor name?

i got 1gb ram and core2duo 6300 2x 1,86 GhZ. Compiled a map with lots of models and reflections (light: extra) --> ~25min.

uncheck light: extra and check light: fast!

for some reason bullet marks dont appear if you compile maps with fast option, have both fast + extra unticked if its a final compile and extra doesnt work

AMD Athlon 6000 x2 + 2GB RAM on extra says out of memory when compiling mp_backlot with Extra and guess when it says it? at 99.7% [sad]

takes an hour to compile with fast + extra unticked

Trying to compile backlot on extra + modelshadows

started: ~19:53

at 20:05:


at 20:19:
Building light transport for everything...
17.7% complete, 15:53 done, 1:14:06 remaining

process priority set to low, burning dvds in the meanwhile, will close some apps like mediaplayer, vnc, explorer to save memory when > 95% is done.

o, come to think of it, i think i had it set to 1 core so i could play cod4 on the other
