After I released the beta version of my map it was brought to my attention that someone had released a map with the same name. When I release the final version I want to change the name to avoid conflicts in case anyone has the other map installed (not likely).

What all do I need to change to make this happen? I want (and probably need) to at the very minimum change the ff names and the iwd and of course the folder name will be different but do I need to change every single file with that map name? I want to try not to make this a huge headache by changing every reference to the current map name. I'm hoping I can get away with just changing a few things.

Any help would be awesome!


P.S. I'm close to being done with all the help questions![lol]

go into the editor, open up your current map and save it as a diferent name (mp_...) go into level compiling hit refresh and compile everything for your map, update the zone file, run the map, update the zone file again (to get rid of the red blobs), and there you have it. new map name.

Don't forget to change your .gsc files and such. I had issues with my map trying to change the name but I think that is mainly because I added onto the original backlot map. I am stilling messing around with it and can't get it to work. Let me know how it goes and if you get any errors.

I'm wondering if there's any reason I cant just rename the ff files and the iwd file (the files inside the iwd could even stay the same).

Is there any reason that would conflict with another map?

I also of course don't want there to be confusion about what the name of the map is. I want a full change.

Changing the name of the .ff won't do it to my knowledge. You can always try it but I believe the name of the map also has to do with wat is compiled from the gsc files which can not be altered once it is compiled. Someone correctly if I am mistaken but I believe that to be the case.

In order to change it (because I just did this recently for a day version of my map) there are a few things to change.

- Save the map as a new name in the editor
- Go to /raw/maps/mp and copy all mp_mapname.gsc and mp_mapname_fx.gsc to the new name. (If you have alternate scripts like mp_mapname_doors.gsc, just keep them. They don't need to be changed.)
- Edit mp_mapname.gsc and change references for mp_mapname_fx.gsc to the new name.
- (if needed) Edit mp_mapname_fx.gsc and change references of /maps/createfx/mp_mapname_fx.gsc to the new name
- (if needed) Go to /raw/maps/createfx and copy mp_mapname_fx.gsc to the new name.
- Go to /raw/maps and copy mp_mapname.csv to the new name (In addition, change the compass name inside to what you plan on changing the name to in the asset manager later on)
- Go to /zone/english and copy mp_mapname.csv and mp_mapname_load.csv to the new names.
- Edit mp_mapname.csv and change entries of mp_mapname to the new name
- Edit mp_mapname_load.csv and change the ui_map entry to the new map name

- Go to the COD4 Tools and recompile the map
- Compile Reflections
- Go to the asset manager and rebuild your compass and loadscreen using the existing pictures. (Remember to name the new entries with the new map name...like compass_map_mp_newname)
- Build FastFile
- Repackage everything

This IS a delicate process and VERY VERY easy to screw up, so don't be surprised if you get errors. I tried to remember everything I did so as to not leave out any steps. I'm going to look back over everthing before I click post...

ok, I need some help with this. When I go to compile the ff I get 'could not find maps/mp_newmapname.csv. There is no maps/mp_newmapname.csv for any other map. What file is it looking for????

That's the CSV file that contains your level data for the loadscreen. Do you have a loadscreen, yet, on any maps?
