Im having the problem that some other people were having, where the map can not be opened in the editor or compiled. When i attempt to compile it gives me an "assertion failure" that reads "num_entities !=1".
When I try to open it in radiant it simply says no worldspawn and dumps me into untitled.map.

I was on the last save/compile of this project which I was weeks into. I have a backup, but its very old, and would probably only be helpful if I could pull some lines of code out of it and put it in the corrupted one.

Is there anything I can do to salvage this file? Does anyone know what that error means, or how to pinpoint the problem so I can remove it through text editting?

Is the autosave any good or is that corrupt aswell?

I have my autosave set to about 2 hours (which is about all i'll map for in one hit), and then save myself every 10-15 mins. Then do complete backup once a week. I have lost one project, that i spent weeks on, and that was one too many. Even now worst case is i'll lose a weeks work.
I know it doesnt help, but it proves that you can never backup too much.

man I hope for you you dont have the same problem as I had, I am currently placing EVERYTHING apart from brushes back in my map as it had saved only my brushes, and even that took some work to restore...

what you need to copy and paste here for us is the following:
when you try and load your map your editor will place some text in the bottom box of radiant (the one beneath the 2d view), copy that and paste it here, that will at least tell us which error you have during loading.

edit: also, I have set my autosave to 5 minutes, not taking any chances.

have you open it in note pad?
it sounds like you have a number out of sequence in your entitys if you are carfull you can open it in note pad and start at the bottom look throgh the entitys one by one make sure all prefabs, xmodels and spawns have angles
"origins and probes dont need them "
must be number sequenced or radiant will not open
at the bottom is the last thing you added
you can open your older save "always copy first"
and copy and paste the entitys back in from your latest map
segment at a time and check each time by opening in radiant
i have lost 3 maps and this is how i started to fix them

Yes, ive opened it in notepad. Its just im not sure I understand the formatting for everything, like whether the // or {} or () begin and start sequences, and whether the coordinants for objects are before or after themselves. Either way, here is what radiant spits out when i attempt to load the map:

Phew! I recovered my map with all brushes, models, ect! If anyone else is getting the worldspawn error, it seems to be a simple matter of replacing whatever is in your map (in the text editor) named entity_0 with a worldspawn. The easiest way to do this seems to be just to create a new map, say with just one brush, save it and then open it in the text editor. Then just copy everything from your first brush down in your old map and paste into the new map over the text defining the single brush. This just makes it easier to avoid any sort of mistake, the main concept is simply to make entity_0 a worldspawn instead of whatever it is now.

eh, this happened to me once. I just opened it in notepad. Yourmap.map And edited in a new worldspawn. If your not sure what its supposed to look like, here are the settings your looking at, and here are what mine are, so you can kinda compare.

When I messed up on mine, I accidentally put something else in the world spawn, and hit enter. Then when I ran my map again, it wouldn't load in Radiant, gave me the same error yours did. So since I made a backup of my map a while back, I opened the backup.map and my map that didn't work, and looked at what the differences were in the world spawn before the words //brushes. Mine above had different world spawn settings than yours did. So all you have to do is manually put in the world spawn settings that you originally put in when you started your map/worldspawn. I would make a copy of your.map and mess with the copy to get the map working though.
