The game comes with a mod: modwarfare. Use that to run your maps if you don't have any others.

The readmes of the maps you downloaded should tell you what to do with them. You should have a directory called \usermaps in your COD4 directory; in that directory you should have directories matching the names of the map files you downloaded. For example, if you have a file called "mp_test.ff", create a directory in usermaps called mp_test. (Name it after the file with the .ff at the end, not the .zip you downloaded). Then unzip your maps that you downloaded into their corresponding directories, placing all the files in each archive within the corresponding directory.

E.g. \usermaps\mp_test\<--- mp_test.ff, mp_test_load.ff and mp_test.iwd go in here.

Open COD4. Load the mod "modwarfare." Type ~ to bring down the console and type map mp_yourmapname. Ta Da!

Didnt work for me.

I have had the FF's and IWD files in my usermaps folder and each map has its own folder within usermaps with the FF's and IWD's.

I launched game; clicked Mods; Double clicked Modwarfare

Then I put it ~ to bring down the console

typed in mp_heavensource also with / (example of a map I have) and both times, nothing happened.

Nope, still nothing happens.

The only maps that come up are test and the map I did. Nothing else.

And all the maps I've downloaded are in the usermaps folder:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\usermaps\mp_heavensource

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\usermaps\mp_parking

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\usermaps\mp_raven

etc etc

Put the maps in the zone/english folder.
Put the .iwd in the mod/modwarfare folder.
Start CoD4 and switch for Modwarfare mod.
Type in /map mp_yourmapname

Hmmm... just to double check

1) mp_heavensource.ff, mp_heavensource_load.ff and mp_heavensource.iwd is in \usermaps\mp_heavensource\

2) You have COD4 1.5

3) You load modwarfare, and the main menu screen turns a shade of blue and there is a red "x" over the "-ern" in the word "modern" (i.e. the mod if loaded)

4) You type ~ and a little command bar pops out of the top of the screen (i.e. "enable console" is checked in options")

5) you type "map mp_heavensource" from the console (with no /).

... and nothing happens? That is... odd. Type in shift+~... do you see any errors?

From what I understand, you have to have the usermaps folder if you are hosting them for people to download from. You still need them or something in the zone/english to direct it to the usermaps.

Just do this and it should work.

Put the maps in the zone/english folder.
Put the .iwd in the mod/modwarfare folder.
Start CoD4 and switch for Modwarfare mod.
Type in /map mp_yourmapname

You don't need anything in the zone\english folder.

IWDs always should go in usermaps with everything else. If they don't work from usermaps they are incorrectly packed.

Well I put mine in the zone/english folder and it works fine. None of the things anyone else has suggested seems to be working so I gave him the simple way to do it.

And believe it or not... that has gotten me further then anything else. The load screens actually come up and the map begins to load, but then I get an error:

file sum / name mismatch

Try typing /developer 1 and /developer_script 1 and running it and see if you get something more specific.
