It's all good bro. I'm just saying, the correct way to do it in 1.5 is via "usermaps," and the more people that know it the better. If it is not working that way then there is something wrong with the .iwd or the maps you are running don't use anything custom, like loadscreens or compasses. Also, if you make a map and you don't test it out the correct way you run the risk of your hard work not working on anyone elses computers and thus being a complete waste of your time.

If servers put iwd's in usermaps instead of "mods" you wouldn't have to go through the process of downloading 15 iwd's every time you join a custom server; a correctly maintained server will put you right into the custom map as soon as you join if you have the mod and the map files the server is running.

Try typing /developer 1 and /developer_script 1 and running it and see if you get something more specific.

Nope, same error

I dont think anything is wrong with the files. I downloaded some from this site and off the IW forums. None of the 5 maps I have worked.

Hmm, don't know what to tell you. I would say try searching the IW forums for that error and see what people say.

And believe it or not... that has gotten me further then anything else. The load screens actually come up and the map begins to load, but then I get an error:

file sum / name mismatch

AFAIK that's an error caused by .iwd stuff not matching the ff's, surprise surprise, iwd errors. Try downloading a newer map that is hopefully packaged correctly. The first poster, Wrecks, has a map called "vertical" that I am positive is packaged correctly, try downloading that from filefront and running it.

The zone\english method was how IW intended to have custom maps be done but bugs made it not work; the usermaps method is a workaround hence all the confusion as to the proper method of doing things.

I dont know if thats the case. The maps I've downloaded all have people who've commented on them and most were downloaded here on ModsOnline.

You wouldnt happen to have the link to Wrecks map?

BTW you can tell if an iwd is packaged properly. Open it up with an archive program such as 7zip (if it wont open rename it to a .zip), and if there is anything other than an "images" folder with a loadscreen and compass .iwi, it is not properly done. If there is a "maps" and/or and "mp" folder, delete them and remake the iwd, then try running it.

(readme.txts are OK though. Also some custom sounds and textures are OK too I believe. The problems are when people put .csv's, arena's and .gsc's into the iwds.)

Also, when you were trying to run them from usermaps, did you bring down the full console with shift ~ and see what errors there were?

Follow the instructions in the readme and if it doesn't work then we can go from there. I'm giving you this file specifically because I just tried it out 2 days ago and I am 100% positive it works and is packed correctly.

The IWD's are all fine. I checked them.

The only error I got was that it was:

Error: Can't find map "mp_parking"

Thanks for the link, but the same thing happens... which is nothing.
