inbetween numerous rainbowsix links [crazy] i stumbled upon someone talking about a light grid... a few more minutes of research on that and problem solved!

the solution (at least in my case) was to add a light grid. this is done by either putting a light grid volume on each brush in the playable area (since this eats up memory, don't do it on areas you don't ever get to in game)

another way of doing it is to play a bit of pacman... in the lower right hand corner of your compile tools there is a section titled "Grid File". select "Make New Grid" and click the "Start Grid" button. run around your map for a while and exit the game window. -> i recompiled (might not have to) and the rainbow is gone!

cheers!

Rainbow colors is a lightgrid issue. Surround your playable areas (areas where the player can get) in a brush textured with the pink lightgrid texture. All of this information is in the wiki and on numerous threads.

ok i found out what causes the rainbow colors!!

i only had ONE reflection probe. and you will need FOUR. each in every corner.. at least.. in My test map (which was an empty space where you could walk in a square)..

though i guess you will be needing the pink ''light_grid volume'' thingy aswell but i at least figured it out.. Finally..

Does a level Always need 4 reflection probes? or is it just because i had a square test map?

Greetings,
Tom aka Chaotica.

Don't think so. A level technically only needs one reflection probe. When I make my maps I only compile reflections twice or maybe three times throughout the million times I compile and run and test my map, once at the start with one single probe, and then at the end when I'm done. I'm 99% positive that rainbow colors go away when you make a light grid and are not dependent at all on whether you have reflection probes.
