I'm hoping someone can at least give an answer, if not a solution to this problem. I was playing UO on a 5 year old machine, smooth as silk. Bought a new machine w/dual core processor, now UO lags like hell. COD4 runs great (reason I bought a new machine). I have heard that the dual core processor is the culprit, but is there any way to correct this? I have tried shutting one of the cores off and also set the priority to Realtime which helps a little, but anytime arty or a hand grenade goes of, I feel like i'm running 1-2 fps instead of the 600 fps I was running. Can anybody at least explain what's happening? Better yet, tell me how to fix it? Thanks for any info provided.

gfx card an 8800 Gt perhaps?

Download drivers 174.74 or later from Nvidia site, should fix most problems.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

175.16 is the latest, and should work well.

OMG, an actual mind reader! Okay, what are the lottery numbers for this Saturday?!?

Actually, it's an 8600 GTS w/512 mb video RAM, I would assume the same driver update info would apply. So if I understand correctly, this is a video problem and not a CPU problem. Everyone kept telling me otherwise. Thanks for the info, I will get right on it.

I have this issue with COD1 every now and again. I always lag when going into the tank hangar on mp_railyard and I'm running a E6600 (2.4Ghz Dual Core and an 8800GT 512MB OC2).

Never looked into it much as I only played it for like a week stint when I got hooked again :P

A friend of mine became so pee-peeed off with his 8600 GT, he smashed it with a hammer.

This link refers to early problems with older games on 8800GT. CODUO's issues are certainly largely fixed with the updated drivers above.

I have a dual core amd processor and I had a bit of problems running vcod/coduo too. I used the AMD dual core optimizer and it helped quite a bit. dunno if you have amd but perhaps there is something similar for an intel processor too.

3rd listing.

Ive heard that with newer cards, a certain DX7 thing to do with dynamic lighting with the Quake 3 engine (which cod uses) isnt present so it gets sent to the CPU instead, which causes lag, so try turning dynamic lighting off in performance options.

Running a cod1/uo server on more than 1 core will cause Infinite loop errors

Any way to fix this problem? i have e6700 x38 4bg ram and 8800gts 512. I cant have stable fps either. I have tried to shut off one core to let it run on 1 core, but its just the same. I notice some improvement if i shut off the lightning stuff, but its still choppy when the battle takes off (both in cod and cod uo). My fps falls down to 40-50s even if have set all graphic settings to the minimal. I try cod first every time i format my pc to check if it runs better, but same poo-poo every time. On a server with only me inside i can get 1000 fps in a few areas, so its definately not my comp that sucks. WTF is this? They should fix this at once!!!!!!
Anyone who know more about this directx 7 lightning problem?
Is it like this on both new nvidia and ati cards?
I've just ordered a 4870, not for only this reason. But i realy hope this will get fixed at the same time. Thanks a bunch for answers. COD is my favourite and will always be :)

Nvidia improved things quite a bit with the newer drivers. From 174.74 onwards, from memory.

I tried installing new drivers with 8800gts, but its same once again.
I tried with my new 4870, same hiccups again :( (Anyway i get the old card sold and i get enough performance to run AA on most games finally, no worry)
Same thing in COD2 too on dx7 setting.
Then what to do? Should i email IW/Activision?
They wont fix it without getting payed anyway. Max support time for a game is 5 years (or less?) i think, and that time is passed.
Any genius here who know some more? Thanks!
