Question if I put a custom map in a cod4 ranked server (stock) does the server become unranked? does all the players lose there ranks & challenges? thanks! edited on Jun. 22, 2008 04:01 am by vital88

I'm not that much into server settings etc., but.. yes, it becomes unranked.. because it's not a stock server anymore.

Hmm, well this depends on how you are using the term "ranked". If you mean you cant get persistent ranks with unlocks, then this is not true. Mods can now have persistent ranking as well as the stock game ever since the 1.5 patch, when the setStat() function was "unlocked" by IW for the mod environment. Many many mods now have persistent ranks and many act exactly like the stock game, with unlocks at each level. For example, AWE4 and ACE mods both have dual modes - one having everything unlocked at level 0, but with persistent ranks; the other, where you have to rank up and get unlocks at each stage of ranking. Everything is persistent, so when you leave the server and come back, your rank is retained. Also, as server admins are encouraged to name the fs_game folder exactly the same, you can cross over to other AWE4 or ACE servers and your rank is valid on those servers as well. If, however, by "ranked" you mean "the stock game the way the devs wanted it played", then yes: you are right, that once you use a mod, even a custom map, you are not playing the stock game the way the devs wanted it to be played. edited on Jul. 5, 2008 05:18 am by Tally
