hello everyone.

my name is Nadav Rosenebrg , i'm a part of a new development Team , which use the COD method the create a Total Conversion game for COD.
I cannot tell you whats it about , lets say i'm from israel.

so , are you up to it?

Scripters are Wanted.
we accept anyone who's up for the task.
we have a Website , we have Sponsers and we have a lot of ppl who want to play it.

for now its in development , so i can't really tell you anything about it.

most of the ppl here do it as a hobby, and most of them allready have quite some projects running (I myself have 2mp maps and one sp map in the making) so you're going to have to give a bit more information to get people excited about it..
post some screenshots, or at least tell what some of the gameplay and/or story is about..

so , the new total conversion , will take place in an epic real live enviorments, all of our maps , are based on primary locations for Terrorists attacks , all will be bulit using live HD photos and textures. no maps for the imagination , only realstic places, as i told before , i live in israel , and we live this "poo-poo" here.

the site we have currently oporate as a forum only , as we want to make a hugh BUZZ before realsing it also , the site currently holds some old stuff which are not relevent anymore.

the mod , will include 2 new armies , you can guess one , but the other is still in Hush Hush . New weapons , and some weapons reajusments , such as when your weapon stuck , better team work , as for how the map is built in MP, there will be some feature when you can't really get to a higher ground but if you use your team mate , he will help you get up on a wall for instance while giving you a "BOOST" with his hands.

we have some pretty good ideas , and they keep comming in , we always accept new blood , just need to remmeber , some of our team was already an active participent in RL combat, not me , but i have 4 brothers , who could teach me something , as for some of them was and some are still in the IDF (Israel Defence Force), so i guess most will be about the accuracy and quality of a the combat, not just running around shooting ppl , thinking before acting.

new classes, and new ranking system, new modes for MP.
new Skins , for force 1 and force 2 , could be a force 3 of some bad guys.

what more can i say?
its a project, some can say its a hobbie , but its a project , and as you know , when you build a project , you shed blood in it , to make it the most you can.

i guess its enough for now.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a severe limitation with COD4 engine, which restricts MP to only 1000 total unique models max!

As a MP map takes up in excess of 670 models themselves, leaving little more than 300 models to play with, it is difficult, if not impossible, to make a "Total Conversion" for COD4.

Add a few new weapons, and 2 new player models, and you hit the limit in no time at all.

This game engine restriction is why there are no big TC projects going on right now. I know, Ive been asked to join at least 6 since COD4 shipped and all of them have stopped now because of the limit.

I wish you luck, and hope you find someone who can get round the model limit. If you cant, you can kiss goodbye to this otherwise great idea.

Your ideas seem ok but as Tally said the engine has its limits and they are reached too easily and too often.

Also remember when doing the "boost" idea to adjust your map boundaries accordingly - make the exterior walls high enough to stop people climbing them. This idea was suggested to me a few months ago by clanmates but I scrapped it when I realised most customs would be flawed because of the boundaries.

well i can exclude some models no?

the whole game is script based, there should be no problem with excluding these 600 models , and use only the ones i need, no?

or are the models , will always stay in the game, and well , what are the 600 already used?
is there a file that gives me the 3rd user information about those 600, or its just a fact, plus , it leaves me 300 unique models to play with , now , one more thing , Tally.
if you just going to "bla bla bla" me then leave it aside, it does not related to the post, if i asked what are the limitions , so.. fine.. but i didn't .


so pls , if someone wants to come and join our project , it will be wonderfull , if not , don't "bla bla bla".

Its not "blah blah blah". Its to stop people wasting their time - something which you should be concerned about, no?

What's the point getting all hyped up about a project which is doomed to failure unless you work out how to overcome the model limitation?

As for not using models - the game loads models it doesnt need for a level, and there is nothing you can do about it. That is the heart of the problem, and a clue to a solution to it - finding a way NOT to load models you dont need.

If you can do that, you have a fighting chance. If not, as I said, the project is doomed to failure, and people will be wasting their time if they get involved when no solution can be found.

Just to add to Tally's post, my RSM mod uses 18 models for new rifles (from COD2) and thats the very limit to run all stock maps.

Each new rifle uses at least 2 Models (one World + one Player view) so i have only added 11 weapons in total (im using same world model to save on some).

You can see that unless you built Map with very very few models a TC is not possible.

Another example are the Player models, most uses 3 Models for one set! (head/ boby / hands)

ok so lets do a quick calculation.

i have about 300 free models spots to use.

if i enter about 15 new weapons , i get 30 models used.

270.

i'm not going to build new models for players ,skin is not enough but what you gonna do? so skin it is.

still 270.

i will need about 5 cars, plus destructalbe, so it sums about 100.

i'm at 170.

new body armor, and maybe a rugged one , so its 2 plus skins.
new helments , maybe 2 hats. sum it up at 5.
i don't need to see them on Hud so it stays 5.

165.

new animations for players, which will probably be as models..
damn now i get the point .

does the game loads the models i already have? like Grass ..etc?
or it goes down the calculations , i guess they are.. so i get your point.

better start working on the limitation.

Oh, right I see now. We've been under the impression you are going to do a "Total Conversion". Not a mod with a few new weapons and a couple of skins.

A "Total Conversion" is, by very definition, a TOTAL conversion - changing player models, weapons and entire look and feel. Like SWAT mod for COD1, or Revolt for COD1/UO.

Those mods were "Total Conversions" - entire new look to COD1 - from WWII to Modern Day.

Heat of Battle tried to do a "Total Conversion" - taking COD4 Modern Warfare back to WWII. That would qualify as a "true" Total Converison. The project stalled, obviously, because of the model limit. But it proves the point nonetheless.

My advice: stop calling your mod a TC, and then you wont run into other people like us trying to tell you a TC wont work for COD4

Hope that helps you out, although - looking at your attitude to people simply trying to give you some good, free advice, I would say Im wasting my time with you, as you dont deserve any help.
