Hey, guys. I'm Roy, and I'm new to the forums. I wanted to say hello, but also request help from some scripters here. :D I am utterly and completely lost when it comes to writing scripts. I have seen a bunch of scripts that I could put into maps, but I want to learn to write my own.[read]
Anyway, I was hoping someone could link me to a tutorial or site that would help me understand the CoD programming language.

I learned most from looking at others scripts or looking just wondering around in the pak files.

the easiest thing to do is start so simple you cant mess it up, so lets say you just draw a box in radiant and make it move forward a bit, when thats working and something else and just keep going untill you have a good understanding of making things work.

You could go from making a box move forward, giving it a sound, give it some efx, make it change direction, make it explode etc etc.. Personally i think its the best way to learn :)

Cool, but I don't even know how I to animate the box like you are saying. lol. Could you perhaps give me a sample script to work with? Thanks.

Ok to have it move up (z axis) you could do something like this, draw a box from 'caulk' give it any texture you want for now. Deselect it then draw a smaller box from the 'origin' texture inside it, imagine this as the center of what you trying to move, any coordinates will use this orgin as its point.

Select them both, right click - script - brushmodel. Now with it stillseelcted press 'N', you now need to type in the 'key' box the word 'targetname' and in the value box type 'my_box'

You will also need a trigger to get things moving so again draw another box, this time from the trigger texture and right click - trigger - multiple. this time you need to give a key or targetname and a value of 'box_trigger', the same way you did before.

Ok like i said start slow, all this will do is when yo hit the trigger you box will go up a bit then stop, thats it. Read the script and try to understand each bit, then ill set you a challange to make it move back down [thumbs_up]

Okay, cool! Thank you very much. The only tiny problem that I see with this is: My computer is too suckish to use Radiant! :( I am doing a tag-team sort of project with Wayne16 now. All I really do though is design/lay out the map then he builds it. I was hoping I could do something more by writing scripts and then sending them over to Wayne, who would then implement them in the map. Would that work? I really don't see a reason why it wouldn't, but I just want to be sure. :)

No problem, make sure you only use notepad to do your scripting though as many other word processors add there own code even though you cant see it. And yes that should be fine, you will really need to add stuff in radint normally unless you are creating a mod.
