didn't he talk about the 1000 xmodel assets limit?

Well still if you are making a total conversion, isn't 1000 Xmodels enough? if you really want to, you throw out all the models you won't be needing, pack all the new stuff up and you're good to go
and for all other smaller mods i think about 20 orso more models will fit in there no ?

i stick to my point, if you really want to nothings impossible, and this engine with it's limitations has already produced some good games. and well for the amount of mods isn't each map that comes out, each script change, each new gametype a mod ?? if so then i think CoD has the most mods of them all just no big mods...

GreetZ KilLjoY

Well I must agree with you that if you try hard enough nothing is impossible. But if I take Remember September as an example; Major Pain wasn't able to release it for CoD2 since most part of the community moved to CoD4, and so did the mappers (he also had some other reasons for not being able to complete it tho). At that point he came with the idea to release RS for CoD4, that made RS a total conversion for CoD4. But when he'd do that he had to import all the xmodels from CoD2 to CoD4, which wasn't possible he said.

For myself I'm not really aware of this problem. It means the game crashses when you add more than 1000 differend xmodels into one map, right? If yes, then there should be a way to edit this I guess...?

Yeah, the game crashes at map load and says something like
Exceeded 1000 xmodel assets

Theres no way of editing it cuz its all hardcoded in to the exe

NovemberDobby any links to those "other active mods"?
I assume they are singleplayer right?

edit:

What is bothering me also is that the only mods I knew or have been released are simply nothing more then "expansions" to the original gameplay, they add some diffirent skins and maybe a diffirent weapon but other then that it's just beautifull maps with SP scripting.

I wanted to try something new, like zombies (I LOVE ZOMBIES <3) but no it didn't work out, nobody showed interesst, if there's nobody to work with there's no reason for me to stay here :p

I know you people wan't diffirent kinds of mods aswell, ask Daver he liked the idea aswell, it's just that it's "too darn big" or "too complex" for this limited engine.

I mean MP mods. There seems to be a lack of them on ModDB but there's plenty out there...I just updated mine the other day: http://www.moddb.com/mods/dobbys-zombie-mod-125

you think anyone can hack the exe? no way! it would last weeks and the community would have to pay a lot money, to get a couple warez sceners working on this...

MP is much more limited than SP. 1000 xmodel assets... you can΄t even add 20 new assets, or a lot of the stock maps will stop working.

Where's the SP mods then? The community HAS the people, they are simply not working together, is it our ego or lack of interesst?

I think it's lack of interest combined with how much more difficult it is to get things done properly for cod4 than it's been for previous cod's.

Why are you saying this? You're not even working on a project yourself. Not for Call of Duty series, not of Half Life 2, not for Crysis.

And now don't come with 'people didn't want to help me with nuclear apocalpyse'. I've found people as well right? And you can also make a modification which you can complete all by yourself, you can help on other modifications (you refused to work on CotC), you can make custom maps, and many more things...
