I posted this here because I'm most interested in hearing from current mappers, but I'd welcome anyone's opinions.

My question is this: what do you think are the three greatest maps - stock or custom - that were ever made for the CoD series? A brief statement of the reasoning behind your picks would be appreciated.

(I ask this because I'm trying to figure out what makes a map an "all-time classic" ... and I want to see if there are any consensus picks to look at for the common threads between them.)

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Hmm i dont know allot of custom maps so ill just stick to stock maps.

My favorite of all time has to be burgundy ( cod2). I think the reason for this is, back in my "pro" years i was the team shotgunner, and loved to play burgundy because most of the times you encountered someone close to you.

2nd favorite has to be broadcast ( cod4 ). I just love the being inside, knowing that if u react faster and play smarter u are likely to win.

And to complete the top 3, is harbor ( cod1/uo ). Once again a map where untill a certain point, its only close encountering.

So to sum it up. I love medium sized maps where there is allot of oppurtunity to close encounter an enemy.

I liked Harbour as well, just an all around fun map.

I liked Foy to for the same reason.

I still like ColditzFinal (cod2) not only because I made it but because it has something unique for all gametypes including liberation. Plays on about 5 horizontal levels so you never knew where players were going to be moving about from. Medium/large size day and night version. Night version can make you spot your shorts.

Like the post above, I prefer medium sized maps as the action tends to get going quicker, allows for more up close encounters and cuts down on sniper/campers.

Definitely Foy from UO as making even game play possible on such a huge map must of been a real challenge along with keeping a steady frame rate and handling a new unique game type (BAS). Grey Matter/IW pulled out all the stops and it paid off big time.
