Since E3 is so large and full of both good and bad things, I thought I would just present you with some opinions of this year's event. I have attended the event twice in the past, but this year I am only watching from the glow of my screen.
The Event:
This year's setup at the convention center looks to be a little quieter and brighter. It probably has something to do with the power failures they had during the day. Either way, all the big guns in the industry are there showing off what they have and that's the primary reason to check out the show as a spectator.
Game Previews:
Let me touch on a few games that I have seen via camcorder and TV.
There are screenshots and camcorder videos popping up all over the place. I did the same for this site last year.
Stargate has all the characters from SG-1, but the game doesn't look innovative. It looks like nothing more than a basic shooter... something I would expect to see from the modders here. I hope they plan on alot of improvements.
FileshackQuake IV will be a rocking game. It's a shame that it looks so similar to DOOM III, but I do expect the gameplay experience to be different. Get past the similarity of the games and we will all fall in love again.
ShacknewsF.E.A.R is looking beautiful. I haven't seen any video footage of in-game play, but the screenshots concur that the gameplay will be as pretty as the scripted scenes. I also expect good things from the enemy AI.
Shacknews,
GamespyPrey is going to be a great game and even though it's using the Doom III engine, it will still come across as it's own game and not just a mod.
IGN,
Gamespot,
GamespySerious Sam 2 is going a bit too far into crazy town. Clowns and flashy gameplay doesn't mean it will be fun. I enjoy th efast pace and pretty engine of the first games in the series, but I think this one is going too far over the top.
ShacknewsAlan Wake is being promoted before it's time. At the show, the only thing to see was a tech demo showing off the environments in the game. I don't expect to see anything of substance for another year.
GamespotCall of Duty 2... it will rock.
IGNHellgate: London is being shown at least a year before a possible release date is mentioned. However, it does appear to be nothing more that a poor man's Doom.
IGN,
GamespyBattlefield 2 is going to be what you expect... an advanced version of those before it with a better balance of weapons and vehicles. It's good to hear that the game is as fun to play as it is to watch.
