Modding your computer system is a pretty hot thing. Even I have fallen into the hype by installing fans with blue LEDs and and LCD readout on my case.
My latest addition is actually alot simpler then most of the mods out there. It's a mouse pad, but no ordinary mouse pad. You see, about 6 months ago I set out to find a better mousepad for gaming. I was sick of those $1 rubber things from Staples and I wanted to know what was so special about those hard plastic ones. What I found was wonderful.
I got my hands on an Illuminated, EverGlide GIGANTA V-3 Ray which lights up with a cool blue color. It's constructed of a thermoplastic compound that really makes my mouse glide smoothly. Its 11.5 x 9.5 inch size means I never run out of mousing area and the soft rubber backing means it won't slip off the table when I get into the heat of the game. The 6 blue UltraBright LEDs are powered by the 5 foot USB cable and, even thought there are lights inside of this pad, it's only .25 inches deep.
The instructions that came with the pad mention, with a little heat and pressure, I can actually bend the pad to fit around objects such as my leg. My leg doesn't sound like the best place to be using my mouse, but if I were trying to play on an uneven surface, I know it wouldn't be rocking around on me.
After about a week of using this mouse pad, I find myself looking forward to coming home to it. After using those soft, rubber things on my two work computers and my laptop, I really enjoy using this pad. The optical mouse is more responsive and there is ALOT less friction.
Would I recommend this pad to my friends? Absolutely, as long as they don't mind the slightly higher price... it's gonna cost you more than that pad at Staples. The only thing that disappointed me was controlled by the function of my PC... I can't shut off the USB power after shutdown so I tend to just leave the pad plugged in, lighting up the room.
The pad I tested came courtesy of GamerzStuff.com with the following backstory:
