MODSCON '08 – A MODSonline Mapping Contest for the Call of Duty Series. Contest runs until April 15th, 2008 (EST). Maps may be submitted at any time during that period through our online submissions page.

CONTEST STARTING February 1st, 2008!

Rules:
  1. Winners will be announced one week following the conclusion of this contest.
  2. Multiple entries are permitted however only one prize per person will be awarded. All contestants must be members of MODSonline.com in order to compete. No purchase is necessary (free membership is allowed).
  3. Entries must be zipped up into a single file before submission. For each entry, we only want to deal with a single file. This file must also contain the readme as described below so that we know how to install your submission (unpacking the zip if necessary).
  4. Entries must contain original content excluding that which we provide you in the starter package. Entries cannot be an altered version of an existing map or mod. Remember, one of the things we will be judging is originality and creativity. Make sure all content is included in your submission or your entry will be disqualified.
  5. Entries sent in must be bug free (we just don’t have the time to bug test them for you). Any bugs found will count against the score. Average fps, with a complete and detailed Readme (you can use the Readme Creator at MODSonline.com, must accompany the entry. With your submission you must also include correct contact information so we can get in touch with you.
  6. Custom textures, models and other contents are encouraged.
  7. Entries may not be released to the public until the winners are announced. However, closed beta testing is allowed and encouraged. We also encourage you to release screenshots and info about your entry, particularly on our forums or on your Projects page. At the contest’s end, all submitted entries may be released to the public. We reserve the right to release your entries on MODSonline.com.
  8. MODSonline.com has the right to redistribute or delete submitted materials without notice.
  9. Entries must be submitted via or our online submissions page. Submissions may be arranged if the file size is large.
  10. Prize responsibility will be that of MODSonline.com.
  11. All submissions must be free of anything deemed obscene, profane, or offensive. What is deemed obscene, profane, or offensive is at the sole discretion of the judges at MODSonline. Any submission deemed to contain anything obscene, profane, or offensive will be immediately disqualified. All submissions, that are accepted, become property of MODSonline in order to use for future site promotions and site content.
  12. Any submissions containing a virus or other malicious software will immediately be disqualified and the creator may face being banned from entering any future official MODSonline contests and competitions.
  13. Adherence to these rules is mandatory. Questions can be directed to any of the Admin Staff through the forums at MODSonline.com. Please do not PM Admins or Moderators regarding the Contest.
  14. Insufficient contestant submissions may result deadline extension or complete cancellation of this contest.
  15. All submissions must be accompanied by source code files as proof of original works or other proofs must be submitted. We want to ensure that all submissions are yours. These source files will not be distributed or used outside of this purpose.
  16. This contest is open to map submissions only for Call of Duty 4 (PC).
  17. This contest is open to all countries.

Two prizes will be awarded to the the top two submissions. The prize will be the shirt of your choice from the MODSonline.com Cafe Press Store.

Judging Examples (maps):

  1. Creative Liberties (if applicable): Basically, if you added new and improved scripts etc to make it cool, that is a good thing.
  2. Textures & Geometry: Minimal flickering or seeing-through of walls and textures, texture colors and appearance, solid geometry (no falling through floors, walking through walls, etc).
  3. Detail Level: Are all of the objects there? Trees, shrubs, cars & other vehicles, etc. Have any been added that look cool (exploding mines, furniture, etc.)?
  4. Spawn Points: Do players spawn where they are supposed to?
  5. Functionality: Do the doors work? Does glass break? Are vehicles scaled correctly?
  6. Weather: What kinds of weather effects does the map have? Feel free to take some liberties with this one.
  7. Multiple game type compatibility: Does the map work in all available game types?.

From us here at MODSonline we wish you the best of luck.

Now Get Mapping... and Modding.

Cheers
