Endcaps, by Darkone
Thanks to Darkone for the work put into this tutorial.
.lets first start with making a wall and a doorway.
.now in the doorway lets fill it with a brush.
.while the brush in the doorway is highlighted choose curve/endcap.
.rotate the endcap untill it looks like an arched doorway.
.center it make it as high or low as you like, and also make sure your thickness is right so we can move onto the next step. see (figure 1) to see what you should have thus far.
.Ok so now you have an arched shape brush in your doorway. lets set the texture. first highlight the arched brush, while its highlighted hold ctrl and press N. ok now the texture is centered.
.Ok we have the arched shape brush and the texture is set,but we still have these holes on both corners. To fix this we will need to add a cap to the endcap. To do that, highlight the arched shape brush and choose curve/cap/inverted endcap.
.ok now the holes are gone but the texture looks awefully wavy huh? We can fix that. First highlight the arch which consists of 3 parts in a func_group. The arch, front cap and rear cap. for this tutorial we will ungroup the func_group entity.
.To do this highlight the arch and choose selection/ungroup entity.
.Now deselect the arch, and now select one of the caps, either front or rear, it dont matter.
.While the cap is highlighted hold ctrl+shift and tap N until you get the proper texture alignment.
.Do the same for the rear.
Well that pretty much sums it up, if you want you can highlight all 3 parts of the arch and choose func_group again if you wish. see the figure for final view. You can use endcaps for more then just arches. u can make half circle pillars, or tunnels too. ill explain in a later tutorial on advanced curves how to make things like tunnels, curved tunnels and a few others. :) |
