Hey All
Welcome To My First PhotoShop CS 8.0 Tutorial Created for Modsonline
I thought i would start off by showing you all how to create a grid background which i use alot in all my design work to make my images look more graphical, i have made the tutorial as simple as i could so even beginners can use it
Right here we go
First of all you will need to create a 11 by 11 unit transparent background, to do this go File/New and set Width to 11 and Height to 11 and make sure Background Contents is set to Transparent
U should now have a image that looks like this
This of course is to small to edit, so select the zoom tool from the tool panel
Now put ya mouse over the image and left click 4 times so you zoom in, ya image should now look like this
Ok our picture is big enough to edit now, so select the line tool
Now our line tool is selected we need to give it some settings, so on the top tool bar give it a weight of 1px and opacity of 65%
Ok now select black from the swatch bar
You now need to draw a line in 1 direction across the middle of the image, it should look like this
Now do the same the other way so it looks like this
Ok now we gotta define the pattern, so with the picture still selected, go to Edit/Define Pattern, now save the image, i gave mine a name of cross1
Right now we gotta have an image to put the pattern onto, so open up or create a new image, heres the one i chose
Ok now select the Rectangle tool from the tool menu
Now we gotta create a new layer on our image, so go Layer/New/Layer
Right now select the colour white from the swatch board
With the recatangle tool still selected drag a box over your whole image, you should have somthing that looks like this
Now we gotta make the white background turn transparent, so select darken from the layer menu
Ur image should now go back to normal
Ok now we gotta go to the blending options on the white background layer, so right click in the layer and select blending options
Now we have the blending options open you need to go to the pattern overlay menu and open up the pattern menu and select the cross pattern we create earlier and click OK
Now your image should look somthink like this
To make it look a bit better you can move the layer down so the grid moves behind pictures
It would then turn out like this
After experimenting a bit more i made the grid more transparent by lowing the capacity on the Line tool and instead of creating a new layer for the grid i added it onto other layers, it turned out like this...
Ok so you now know how to create a grid background, i hope this helps you all
Enjoy
