Well I am nearning completion of my new cityblock map that you may or may not have seen some pix for. I have a couple of questions as to it though:

1 - it is a city block, it has no historical significance at all so that would certainly be a downfall considering that is sorta a judging requirement. It is completely done by myself though from the ground up.

2 - having to put in all gametypes. This map was designed for BEL and HQ and TDM. It also so far supports regular DM. I have not put in RE or SD yet as I was not going to. They are requirements for the contest however, but this map simply was not designed for those gametypes and will likely not be very fun on it. I personally hate RE as it is the most useless gametype ever made. So should I put these gametypes in? I mean I will have to to submit it I suppose.

Any comments from anyone would be appreciated.

i cannot comment, other than to say that the rules and requirements are posted for the contest

being a judge in this contest makes it ... difficult ... to provide advice that is non-generic, but use your own discretion on what you feel should be done [angryalien]

How about this...
You have time to work on another map. Start another map that better fits the requirements of the contest. If you finish it in time, awesome.

However, if you don't have anything else to submit, then submit what you have.

It's true that we will be judging you based on the criteria set forth in the rules, but that does not mean your map won't stand out above the rest.

Also, ask Foxhound if there is a limit to the number of submissions you are allowed. Perhaps you can submit this map... and then another.

yea only 1 entry. I was half done this map before the contest was even listed so that's why I ask. I will likely submit this one anyways as I don't really have enough spare time to do another yet as they usually take quite awhile to make. I don't really map for historical areas, just for fun factor, at least I try to make them fun.

Also, what is being done with the .map files after? I don't really want it to get out to anyone other than whoever needs to see it. And giving up the rights to a map isn't much of a problem except what if I want to add to it or remake part of it in the future? Would that cause any problems?

Just curious for the most part. I will have to think of a way to impliment SD if I decide to submit it.

Thanks for the answers.

well...FYI, SD doesnt need to destroy a model...it can just as easily be setup to destroy a script_brushmodel, which allows you to destroy any brush or group of brushes in your map [angryalien]

The rules do say one entry per person however I'll canvas the Admins and Mods (Judges) to get their view on this topic then get back to you.

The .map files will not be used in any other capacity other then the Judges looking at the work put into the map. ie: clean, tidy mapping habits etc. They will not be given away nor edited.

Cheers

Well I added all the gametypes and more of less finished tweaking everything. I am going to do a couple of weeks beta testing with the clan and make sure all the gametypes work as this is the first time I have put in RE. Hopefully this will be my last compile. Good luck to everyone.

I wont even hand over my .map file so looks like i wont be entering in it, lol

Dont see why u need the .map tho, we build the maps to be seen in game not to be seen in radiant, if they play and look ok in game then whats the problem
