well im totally new to this so i cant judge how it was, as a beginner i find it very hard to work with it and even to start, spended bout 20 hours now to mess around and so far got a square with some crates etc on it and a wall.
started so many times of cuz i had alot of crashes due to errors of things not working or cant be found.
I cant complain cuz im new to this all and i will go on with it cuz i like it but what i did notice is that i got alot more respect for the advanced mappers out here. really impressed what they can make and seeing my newbie things i think ill have my map done in bout 6 months lol

I agree with LPRay ...

I have been mapping/modding/skinning for almost 10yrs now... starting in 1998 with Rogue Spear. First time using Radiant though.

I think the tools are buggy as hell. I haven't seen this kind of crashing since Win95.
someone stated that you can't expect a finished product, that all games/tools needed patches ... that's a load of crap.

The tools are free so i can handle that ... but paying 70.00 bucks for a game and it needing 4 or more patches in it's lifespan to actually make it functional is a rip. (COD4 not included and that is why i purchased it.)

I am very bummed out by these tools ... they don't totally suck but they sure don't rock either. On a scale of 1 to 10 ... i would say the tools are a solid 5.

I would be a kid in the candy store if we had all those textures
from all those locales.

They spent 2 months getting the tools ready rather than making 2 or 3 new maps which means it's up to us now.

If I just had all those COD 2 & 4 textures in one Radiant. :)

Great job on the tools IMO,

how many months did we have to wait for CoD2 tools,

beggars can't be choosers!

best thing to do would be a "bug" section in the forums about the issues we have and hope that they will be ixed in the next patch.

I believe - for beginners- these tools aren't for them, and should start with classic cod1 radiant

But for people who have used cod1+ cod2 radiant, once the tools actual work (which took me a while to get em 2) they are great

I really love the new lighting system

I would like to thank everyone for contributing to this discussion. Straightforward debate is a rare thing anymore.

I hope that someone from IW has seen this thread and others like it and learn from it.

The tools are workable or should I say "workaroundable" (add that to your Funk & Wagnell dictionary).

I think in future that IW should not only choose their friends and some top mappers for Beta testing they should also include some mid level mappers who enjoy mapping. Im just not totally convinced that we got the best possible tools given to us. These errors that we are experiencing should not have slipped by without notice.

Thanks again guys for your honest responses and by all means continue with this.
