Hey, I'm having a strange problem which i've never seen or even heard of before.. when compiling my map (which is quite large) it gets to about 53% through the light compile and then stops for about 10 minutes.. then shuts the computer down..

anyone seen this before? or have any idea whats going on?? lol!

Oh i should also add i've made a couple other small test maps which compile without any problems..

System:

Windows Vista Ultimate (I know i know.. )
AMD Athlon X2 6000+
4GB RAM
Geforce 8600GTS

Thanks for the replies :)

I've scanned my PC with almost everything out there (did this a few days ago because i thought that's what it might be) but it's completely clean as far as i can see.

Also, it's an Alienware system, and they have pretty nifty cooling.. so i doubt it's overheating either.

And about the power supply, is there any way i could test this do you think?

I should also add that this map has compiled perfectly on this system before (when using XP). I backup up my map files, formatted and installed vista, then put cod4 and the tools back on, and put my map files back in there.. ever since doing that it has had this problem.

Does your computer shutdown completely or does it restart?

Okay, is there any way to see if this is still the case in Vista? :)

Thanks for the reply!

EDIT: Nevermind taken a look into services, seems it was set to restart anyway, rather than just shutting down? Even so, if the DCOM service is crashing, why? :P

Might have something to do with it.

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/08/12/nvidia-g92s-g94-reportedly
Basically most of the 8000 and 9000 series cards are defective

I've been having problems since adding my 9600GTO to my rig with overheating shutting my system down, and Vista has got a much larger RAM, CPU and Graphics load than XP

Ahh :/ thanks for letting me know :) I think a new GTX280 or something is in order maybe :P Or have NVidia ******* them up too LOL! ;)

But even so, i'm not sure if this would be whats causing it because surely if this was the case it would have shutdown some other times.. it's only ever when it gets to that crucial percentage on the compile of only one map.. :/ (I will add that about 1 out of every 10 tries does actually compile successfully).
